Enjoy an afternoon of free art, poetry, music, and family activities in celebration of the Menil Collection’s second annual Neighborhood Community Day. DACAMERA will be participating with the following performance schedule below:

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Brooke Wyatt Jazz Trio (Menil Front Lawn)

DACAMERA Young Artist Brooke Wyatt, jazz piano; with guest artists AJ Moyler, bass; and Mark Simmons Jr., drums.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Sam Dinkins III Drum Circle (Deck across from the Menil Drawing Institute)

Learn the basics of African drumming with Sam Dinkins III. No experience or registration required.

Stop, Look and Listen! is a series of free chamber music and jazz concerts presented in one of Houston’s most inspiring and stimulating environments, the world-renowned Menil Collection. Admission to the Menil is always free.

Meta4 returns to DACAMERA with a dynamic program of vivid musical contrasts: Kaija Saariaho’s second quartet, Terra Memoria; composed “for those departed”; Shostakovich’s riveting Quartet No. 4 and Ravel’s colorful quartet– eagerly embraced by listeners since its first performance in 1904.

One of the most lyrical and intimate voices of contemporary jazz piano, Brad Mehldau has forged a unique path, which embodies the essence of jazz exploration, classical romanticism and pop allure. From jazz to R&B, and pop/rock and hip-hop/neo-soul to classical, nine-time GRAMMY-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader Christian McBride is a luminary with one hand ever reaching for new heights. In all of his playing, drummer/composer Marcus Gilmore integrates a unique style where he is musically expanding rhythm, while supporting the diverse array of the finest musicians in the world with whom he plays.
