FINDING HOME BRIARMEADOW CHARTER SCHOOL
Briarmeadow Charter School is in the west Houston area, nestled within the Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhood which is east of I-610 and north of the Westpark Tollway. Before the 1950s, this area was predominantly rural land with a few unpaved farm roads. Now, this area is one of the most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods in the city and is home to families from Lebanon to El Salvador, Vietnam to Colombia.
Briarmeadow Charter School is in west Houston, between the Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhoods that is east of I-610 and north of the Westpark Tollway. Abwab E-Salam meaning “The Gates of Peace” is a song composed by Wadih El Safi. Wadih El Safi is an iconic Lebanese singer and composer who is considered to be a central figure in Lebanon’s musical culture. Abwab E-Salam was chosen by students at HISD’s Briarmeadow Charter School located in the west Houston, Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhood. It was arranged by DACAMERA Young Artist Nicky Sohn and performed by the DACAMERA Young Artist String Quartet.
Abwab E-Salam means “Gates of Peace” and is a song written by Wadih El Safi. He is an iconic singer from Lebanon who is considered a central figure in Lebanese cultural music. Abwab E-Salam was chosen by students at HISD Briarmeadow Charter School in West Houston and the Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhoods. This song was arranged by DACAMERA Young Artist, Nicky Sohn, and was performed by DACAMERA Young Artists in a string quartet.
El Carbonero has been adopted by many Salvadorians as a second national anthem. Unlike some patriotic anthems, it tells the story of a man selling coal to different regions of El Salvador and represents the Salvadorian people’s pride in their country. El Carbonero was chosen by students at HISD’s Briarmeadow Charter School located in the west Houston, Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhood. It was arranged by DACAMERA Young Artist Nicky Sohn and performed by the DACAMERA Young Artist String Quartet.
El Carbonero has been adopted by many Salvadorans as a secondary national anthem. Unlike many other songs, El Carbonero tells the story of a man who sells charcoal to many regions of El Salvador, and represents the country’s pride for Salvadorans. El Carbonero was chosen by students at HISD’s Briarmeadow Charter School, located in West Houston’s Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhoods. It was arranged by Young Artist, Nicky Sohn, for The DACAMERA String Quartet.
Students at HISD’s Briarmeadow Charter School located in the west Houston, Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhood also selected Kìa con bướm vàng , a traditional song from Vietnam meaning “Yellow Butterfly.” This song was arranged by DACAMERA Young Artist Nicky Sohn and performed by the DACAMERA Young Artist String Quartet.
Students at HISD’s Briarmeadow Charter School, located in West Houston’s Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhoods, chose Kìa with bướm vàng , a traditional Vietnamese song that means “The Yellow Butterfly.” This song was arranged by Young Artist, Nicky Sohn, and was performed by The DACAMERA String Quartet.

It was selected by students at HISD’s Briarmeadow Charter School located in the west Houston, Briarmeadow and Tanglewilde neighborhood, arranged by DACAMERA Young Artist Nicky Sohn, and performed by the DACAMERA Young Artist String Quartet.
