George Lewis: Artificial Life
Roscoe Mitchell: The Metropolis Trilogy (world premiere; DACAMERA co-commission)

Musicians

Emi Ferguson (baroque and modern flutes); Immanuel Wilkins Quartet (Immanuel Wilkins, saxophone; Micah Thomas, piano; Thomas Morgan, bass; Kweku Sumbry, percussion); Ruckus (Doug Balliett, baroque bass and viola da gamba; Elliot Figg, harpsichord and keyboard; Paul Holmes Morton, theorbo and baroque guitar; Clay Zeller-Townson, baroque bassoon)

The daring flutist Emi Ferguson and shape-shifting baroque band Ruckus are back!  Joined by visionary jazz saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins and his quartet, these experts in the art of improvisation combine forces for an exhilarating mix of musical styles, including a major new work.

The world premiere of iconic innovator Roscoe Mitchell’s Metropolis Trilogy, produced by New York’s Metropolis Ensemble and co-commissioned by DACAMERA, will be surrounded by a dazzling constellation of works from the baroque era and beyond. Revel in an inspired take on Bach’s contemporary, Georg Philipp Telemann; MacArthur-winning composer George Lewis’s open-ended work for mixed instrumental ensemble; and the world premiere of Metropolis Trilogy, composed especially for tonight’s musicians.

“an alto saxophonist whose playing is at once dazzlingly solid and perfectly lithe” — The New York Times on Immanuel Wilkins
