Longtime DACAMERA favorites, the members of the New York Philharmonic String Quartet are principal musicians from the esteemed orchestra. Multiple prize winners all, they have appeared as concerto soloists with the Philharmonic and orchestras around the world, and their quartet performances are rare and cherished events.
American composer Florence Price was the first Black woman to have her music played by a major orchestra, with the world premiere of her Symphony No. 1 by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1933. We hear in this program Price’s connection to Antonin Dvořák, who was a direct musical influence on Price through her studies with one of Dvořák’s pupils during his American period.
