Da Camera’s celebration of old and new culminates in a program of much-loved pieces of chamber music inspired by folk songs. Experimentalist Luciano Berio shocked audiences with these 11 respectful arrangements of songs from around the world, from the Appalachians to Azerbaijan. Evocative of klezmer music, Prokofiev’s delightful Overture was inspired by Jewish folk music. Pianist Sarah Rothenberg, acclaimed mezzo-soprano and cabaret performer Jean Stilwell and rising-star cellist Amit Peled are part of an outstanding ensemble featuring several members of the Houston Symphony.
